Projects Overview

Mexico, a country with a mining history which straddles almost 500 years, still weighs amongst the world’s largest metal producers. It represents a major mineral exploration ground.

Roughly US$2 billion per year is invested in to mining in Mexico. 70% of mining exploration investment in Mexico is by foreign companies, of which 75% are Canadian.

Virgin Metals’ projects reside within Sonora State in northwestern Mexico. Sonora borders the U.S. and the Gulf of Mexico covering 70,291 square miles (182,052 square kilometres). Explored first by the Spaniards in the 1530’s, it has become an important colonial mining district for copper, gold and silver. Today over 25% of Mexico’s metal production and over 20% of the country’s copper production comes from Sonora State.
